Affordable Housing Systems

Studio III / 2nd Year

This second year design Studio focuses on exploring architectural conventions in relation to cultural, sociological and general human related aspects. Based on a socio-cultural understanding of the design approach, students are encouraged to develop and employ their analytical problem-solving skills as the basis for ethical action in the architectural design invention.
The design proposal for this housing project is accessible and affordable for the less wealthy population in Dubai, which tends to be often simple workers, and is meant to address specific needs and requirements of its users as necessary. Furthermore, this project should act as an envelope for its residents for social activities, to bring people of different cultures and ethnicities together in a pleasant and respectful meeting point for interaction and exchange. As a structure this project should be integrated in the urban fabric of Dubai and not to be placed in outside areas as it is the case with other low cost housings.
